- The family released a statement confirming that he is still alive, however he's in a critical condition
- The rapper has been on life support in hospital after he suffered a heart attack earlier this month
Family of US rapper DMX have called on people to stop spreading rumours about the star's death after #RIPDMX went to the top of Twitter's trending list recently.
Heading online, the rapper's manager, Steven J Rifkind, shed some light on the situation.
According to Steve, DMX is still alive and currently on life support. He has not passed on, as many US publications have reported. He also called on social media users to stop using the hashtag #RIPDMX and to rather continue to pray for the rapper.
Steven captioned a clip of himself giving clarification about DMX's condition:
"DMX is still alive but on life support."
Many of the star's fan's subsequently thanked Steven for making it clear while others started using #PrayForDMX in tweets about the rapper, who continues to fight for his life in hospital.
Meanwhile, TMZ also reported that the star's family was contemplating taking him off life support after a series of tests showed that there is no sign of brain activity.
YEN.com.gh previously reported that US Rapper DMX, real name Earl Simmons, had suffered a heart attack and was rushed into hospital and placed on life support.
According to the BBC, he was taken off life support and breathing on his own. However, doctors are concerned as there is very little sign of brain activity. DMX has had a history of substance abuse and it is not known if the heart attack was triggered by drug intake.
However, this seems likely as informal reports suggest that he had fallen off the wagon and was using drugs again after numerous stints in rehab.
The popular rapper has worked with major artists such as Jay-Z, Ja Rule, Eve and LL Cool J. He has even made a couple of appearances in films.
