Nigerian gospel singer Neon Adejo has found himself in the middle of a messy domestic fallout after private WhatsApp messages allegedly exchanged between him and a model named Alicia surfaced online.

The drama originates from the very public collapse of the marriage between photographer David Martins and his wife Alicia, who have both taken to social media to air grievances involving allegations of infidelity, physical abuse, and emotional neglect.

In the leaked chat, Adejo appeared to ask Alicia for a selfie while reassuring her that his wife would not come across their conversation.

Alicia expressed hesitation, writing:

"I don't want your wife to be like, why is she sending a selfie."

Adejo replied:

"Stop it, she won't even see my chats. Send me a selfie, I want to see you🙈. Let's give this to bloggers, what do you think? I just sent you #150,000, I don't know what that would do for you. Something to add to what you have."

The messages raised eyebrows almost immediately, given Adejo's profile as a gospel artiste.

He moved quickly to address the controversy, explaining in a separate message that the only reason he had requested a selfie was that he had arranged for a friend's company to style Alicia's hair at his expense.

"She was looking like someone who had been through a lot, and I reached out to my friend because I wanted to make sure she looked and felt like herself again," he wrote.

David Martins fires back with more allegations

David Martins rejected his wife's characterisation of him as an abuser, countering that it was Alicia who had been abusive throughout the marriage.

He shared what he described as evidence, including details of an anxiety and depression diagnosis Alicia reportedly received early in the relationship, which he claimed she did not complete treatment for.

Martins also alleged that Alicia had maintained contact with a former partner named Yemi, and pointed to the leaked Adejo messages as evidence of inappropriate behaviour on her part.

He went further, accusing Adejo of encouraging Alicia to take her story public through blogs, sharing his photograph in a group chat, and allegedly inciting others to confront him. He also claimed that relationship commentator Solomon Buchi had a connection to Adejo.

Alicia, for her part, declined to address her husband's allegations one by one. She stated that her focus remains on securing justice for herself and her child, adding that had the alleged events taken place in the United States, David would already be in custody.
