Government on Friday, January 17, 2020 announced that it has set up a 40-member Emergency Forex Development Committee to arrest the fall of the cedi against other major foreign currencies, especially the US dollar,.

The committee will be chaired by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta.

The setting up of the committee has irked Ghanaians, with many questioning the rationale behind the formation of such a committee.

Some have even questioned the performance of Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who is chairman of the economic management committee.

The Vice President told Ghanaians the NPP government had arrested the fall of the cedi and stabilized the economy 100 days in office.

So the announcement of the Committee to fight the fall of the cedi came as a big surprise to many Ghanaians.

This led to some trolling and mocking the Akufo-Addo administration for doing little to stabilize the cedi depreciation.

One of such people is NDC MP for Bawku Central, Isaac Adongo, he has vehemently called out the president and his vice for lying to Ghanaians.

He opined that President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia have “swindled” Ghanaians with “lies” as far as the depreciation of the cedi is concerned.

Nana should rather set up a committee to investigate how he and the economic comedian [Dr. Bawumia] swindled Ghanaians with brilliant and eloquent lies. When you go about calculating inflation in Mallam Atta market and use rate of change to calculate depreciation, what do you expect? Miracles?”.
