GCB Bank rolls out G-Money, its own mobile money platform with freebies for customers

GCB Bank, Ghana's leading bank in terms of capital and customers, has finally rolled out its G-Money Mobile Wallet with loads of freebies users.

G-Money which came into operation on Thursday, January 30, 2020, is aimed at helping customers of the bank and non-customers to transact businesses with ease, pay bills and purchase airtime on their mobile phones.

Apart from making transactions easy for users, G-Money promises the best value for money in terms of transaction fees.

Already, GCB has offered free usage of the G-Money platform for the months of February.

Speaking at the public launch of G-Money at Madina in Accra, Mr Carl Ashie, GCB's Head of Mobile Financial Services stated that G-Money users will not pay any fee for transactions within the month.

Mr Ashie further indicated that the fees to be charged per each transaction on G-Money will be very minimal compared to the existing charges of other mobile money platforms in the country.

Explaining how G-Money works, Mr Ashie disclosed that both smartphone and non-smart phone users as it offers platforms such as Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD) and the bank’s internet banking platform to roll out the service.

It also enables subscribers to make transactions on, mobile banking application, point of sale devices, and Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).

One other interesting feature of the service, according to Mr Ashie, is the integration of Whatsapp channels to make transactions as a group.

To use the G-Money service, he added, He said GCB customers could just dial *422#, go to GCB menu and opt-in. Non-customers, on the other hand, have to visit any GCB Bank branch or agent with valid national identification for registration.

Answering a question on how robust the platform is in terms of the network challenges considering the expected high number of users, Mr Ashie indicated that G-Money uses up-to-date technology and will not have any such challenges.

“On G-Money, it’s more of providing differentiated service for our customers and allowing them to transact at an affordable rate of their convenience,” he summed up the G-Money service.
