A revelation made by the EC’s Deputy Chairman of Operations, Amadu  Sulley indicates the Electoral Commission is spending in an estimate of over  GH₵397 million on the upcoming District Assembly and Unit Committee elections as against the GH₵317 million earlier on budgeted.

According to Amadu Sulley, the development was due to several judicial procedures which delayed the process hence piling up the financial profile on the budget.  Explaining the development to the Ghana News Agency, the Deputy Chairman Operations intimated the nullification of the district elections and its re-scheduling had cost the nation more money, and indicated that, out of the total money demanded, GH₵45 million had been released so far, stressing that, the remaining amounts would be released in two payments before the elections begins to guarantee the success of the process

The Electoral Commission was ordered to place a hold on the conducting of the District Elections upon claims of bad timing and unilateral electoral decision making but Mr Sulley admits the EC was not aware of the maturity period of the Constitutional Instrument (CI) 89, explaining that there was a miscommunication between the Parliament of Ghana and the EC hence the mistake that caused the nullification of the process by the Supreme Court.
