President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced that government is set to procure over 17 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine by the end of June.

He made this known when he delivered 23rd COVID-19 national address on Sunday, January 31, 2021.

According to him, the first batch of the COVID-19 vaccines are expected to arrive in the country by March 2021.

“We are hopeful that by the end of June, a total of 17,600,000 vaccine doses will be procured for the Ghanaian people. The earnest vaccine will be in the country by March,” Akufo-Addo said.

He added that the Food and Drugs Authority will use its established processes for granting emergency use authorization for each vaccine in Ghana.

“As President of the Republic, I assure you that only vaccines that have been evaluated and declared safe for use in Ghana will be administered.”

Meanwhile, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has underscored the need for all workplaces to employ a shift system for its workers.

He advised that both private and public workplaces should adapt this system in a bid to enforce the social distancing protocol.

The president’s address comes in the wake of the increased cases of the coronavirus across all 16 regions of the country.

President Akufo Addo has also reinforced restrictions to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

He stated that funerals, parties , theatrical performances and other forms of public gatherings have been banned.

Private funerals are however allowed with not more than 25 people on attendance.
