A senior clinical engineer at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), Emmanuel Wireko-Brobby, has invented a sandal crutch to aid the mobility of persons with disabilities.
Wireko-Brobby's innovation will provide a great support system for persons with mobility impediments.
The Ghanaian engineer disclosed that he was inspired to invent the leg crutch after observing the distress persons with disabilities go through.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews, Wireko-Brobby revealed he met with people with disabilities to find out how he could design something to aid them before inventing the sandal crutch.
''I designed this [sandal crutch] to help people who have difficulty in walking especially the physically challenged. This will help them carry out their normal duties without difficulty,'' he told JoyNews.

The sandal crutch is attached to a rope and woodwork, which is supported with a metal strip to hold it tight. This will strengthen the leg and make movement easy, he said.
Wireko-Brobby's sandal crutch, which comes along with a walking stick, will help people with weak bones, supporting their knee and thigh.
