Veteran radio presenter, Sekyere Boateng, popularly known as Sekyere Popro, has kicked the bucket.

News of Sekyere Popro's passing surfaced on social media on Tuesday, June 8, 2021.

Ofori Sekyere Boateng, the eldest child of the veteran broadcaster, has confirmed the news in an interview on Peace FM.

According to him, his father finally gave up the ghost in the mid-morning of Monday, June 8, 2021, at about 11:00 am.

Speaking in an interview with Kwasi Aboagye on his Entertainment Review show, the son of the broadcaster indicated the veteran had been sick for some time and had been in and out of the hospital.

He passed away while he was being transported to the hospital for a review appointment.

The veteran broadcaster left behind seven children including Ofori Sekyere Boateng.

Sekyere Boateng's career

The deceased was a versatile broadcaster who had competencies in presenting sports, general news, and current affairs.

He was an astute football commentator who made a name for himself in the area of Akan football commentary.

Starting with the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Sekyere Popro was a stalwart on GBC's radio station in Accra before he was transferred to the sister station in Kumasi, Garden City Radio.

From Kumasi, he moved to Peace FM in Accra where he worked from 2000-2003 before being snapped up by Happy FM to work as the station's General manager.

After some time at Happy FM, Sekyere Boateng moved to Adom FM before joining Hot FM, also in Accra, in 2010.

As at the time of his passing, Sekyere Popro had retired from active broadcasting and was only offering advice to those who consulted him, his son said.
