Mahama named "Africa's most inspirational president"
The congress of all Africa Students Union (ASU) has adjudged Ghana's president, John Dramani Mahama, the "Most Inspirational African President".
The independent student body with membership across over 50 African countries selected President Mahama based on the following reasons.
1. Fight against Ebola outbreak
The most deadly Ebola outbreak which struck some states of West Africa saw President Mahama take drastic measures to help contain the spread of the virus. Top of his action as chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) was to set up a medical dispatch headquarters in Ghana mainly for the deployment of drugs and other medical items to affected countries.
2. Management of Burkina Faso coup
President John Dramani Mahama stepped up efforts to discuss the political situation in Burkina Faso. The president in a statement condemned the coup of September 17, noting that it violates with impunity "the internationally brokered process to promote the principle of entrenching democracy and constitutional governance in Burkina Faso."
3. Visa upon arrival
When Mahama announced efforts by government to open Ghana's visa policy to Africans, he did not just receive appraisal from African leaders but also across the world.
4. Peace and stability in Ghana
President Mahama has been able to sustain the peace and stability in Ghana even as the country prepares for the general elections. It is no doubt that Ghana remains a beacon of democracy in Africa.
