Over 30 ashawos and "customers" arrested in raid at Awoshie

Police in Awoshie, a suburb of Accra, raided a suspected brothel and arrested a number of prostitutes and their “pimps”.

According to reports by local media, the Thursday night operation saw the Accra Regional Police command arrest 35 prostitutes, about 20 of whom were Nigerians.

Regional Police Commander, DCOP Osaberima Oware Asare Pinkron said they were arrested alongside their male counterparts on charges of “soliciting for immoral purposes”.

Some of the named individuals arrested include Michael Precious, 25; Brown Tracie, 24; Ifoma Paul, 38; Sachael Fidelis, 28; Blessings Osas, 20; Inkres Ken, 24; Shallon Desmond, 25; Sofia Bilter, 26; Saver John, 30; Loverd Osazel, 25; Happy Okosue, 32; Promise Ona, 25; Brueter Omo, 28; Sonia Omorefe, 45; Faith Osafu, 25 and Favour Chuku, 25.

The others are Glory Osazuwa, 24; Hellen Jacktor, 25; Agnes Jacktor, 27; Believe Osakpolor, 23; Divine Edem, 24; Destine Victor, 18; Precious Emmanuel, Blessing Osawro, 23; Linda Joseph, 25; Shirley Osahen, 24; Asia Bella, 23; Blessing John, 35; Solace Sunday, 22; Joy Lovely, 20; Mary Daniel, 22; Jessica John, 18; Stephanie Peter, 26; Jennifer Okodua, 22 and Ukere Jeff.

The police revealed to journalist that they had arrested some of the culprits in the act as they raided the location around 5:30PM.

Some quantities of condoms and sexual lubricants were recovered from the suspects.

DCOP Pinkron III assured that the police would take the necessary steps to make sure the suspects, who have been detained, would be screened and those found culpable, prosecuted.
