Threads Instagram: What You Need to Know About Zuckerberg's New Platform Compared to Musk's Twitter

Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram parent company Meta has launched a social media platform using texts like Twitter.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the rollout of Twitter's rival application on Thursday, July 6, 2023.

"Big news today. We are launching Threads, an open and friendly public space for conversations. It takes the best part of Instagram and creates a whole new experience around texts, ideas and what is on your mind," said Zuckerberg in a Facebook Reel video.

Zuckerberg said Instagram account holders can log in to Threads using their account details and set up statuses to let their friends know.

According to Instagram, Threads is an app from Instagram where you can post threads, reply to others and follow profiles you’re interested in. Threads and replies can include short pieces of text, links, photos, videos or any combination of them.

When you reply to other people's threads, you can create a discussion, but you may not be able to see all the replies to you in case the person replying runs a private profile, and you do not follow them.

Threads also allow users to like, share, quote or repost their content, just like Twitter.

How to log into Threads Instagram?

The tech entrepreneur reiterated that anyone with an Instagram account can log into Threads. You simply have to download the Threads App from the play store or visit the website and scan the QR code to get the application.

Once you have the application, follow these prompts to log in;

  • Open the downloaded app and click on the ” Login with Instagram ” button. This appears at the bottom of your phone screen.
  • Use your Instagram Username and Password to log in to the new Threads app.
  • Once you are logged in, you get to the interface where you can write your first thread. Your followers can be able to see and share, like, and create a discussion.

How your Instagram data is used on Threads

The information Threads collect from your Instagram account includes; your login details, Instagram account ID, name and username, and Instagram profile information, including your picture, bio and links.

Other information includes your Instagram followers, accounts you follow, your age on Instagram, account status relating to intellectual property violations and instances of going against Instagram’s Community Guidelines.

Threads users can control who can mention or reply and filter the replies to threads which contain specific words.

If your Instagram account is blocked, you'll automatically be blocked on Threads, and users have the same ability to block, restrict or report profiles.

Threads account, and details can only be deleted once you delete your Instagram account.

How Threads Instagram is different from Twitter

The company explained that Threads users can see threads from accounts they follow and those they do not follow, as opposed to Twitter.

The extra threads come from algorithmic recommendations by the platform.

Twitter users can send direct messages via Twitter inbox, as opposed to Threads which does not give a direct message link.

Threads allow private account settings to choose who can follow you and see your threads as opposed to Twitter.

Posts on Threads can be up to 500 characters long and include links, photos, and videos up to 5 minutes in length compared to Twitter, Meta revealed.

How many people are on the Threads app?

According to Zuckerberg, the application attained 10 million users in the first few hours of its launch.

He said Threads offers a whole new experience around texts and ideas, providing a friendly community around the globe.

He revealed the platform received overwhelming reactions from first-time users who signed up after the launch.
