Veteran Ghanaian broadcaster Godsbrain Smart, widely known as Captain Smart, has reportedly ended his radio career to pursue a political future, stepping down from his role as host of Onua Maakye on Onua TV.

According to media personality Sirr Joe of Agooha FM, who shared the news on Facebook on 7 August, Captain Smart resigned to contest as the National Democratic Congress Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa West in the Central Region.

The departure was confirmed on-air, with video footage of his live resignation circulating online and generating significant attention across social media.

Captain Smart built one of the most recognisable voices in Ghanaian radio over several decades. He rose to national prominence at Adom 106.3 FM, where he hosted the popular morning programme Dwaso Nsem after departing Fox 97.9 FM. He later moved to Angel 102.9 FM, anchoring Angel in the Morning, before eventually joining Onua TV, a subsidiary of Media General, to host Onua Maakye.

His morning shows were known for their sharp commentary on governance, social issues, and everyday Ghanaian life, earning him a loyal and sizeable audience across the country.

The decision to trade the microphone for a political campaign marks a significant shift for one of Ghana's most outspoken media figures. Gomoa West, located in the Central Region, would be his constituency of choice as he seeks the NDC's parliamentary ticket.
