Some basic school children at the Tapa Amanya Roman Catholic School in the Volta Region sit on stones with others on the bare floor to have their lessons.

The school has no classrooms nor desks but the pupils are determined to access formal education.
Currently, the primary school is housed in a crowded bamboo made structure without desks, black boards, chairs, and the frightening among all the headache is snake infestation.

Some of the pupils who spoke to Adomonline.com’s, Gershon Mortey in an interview lamented that the situation is affecting their lessons.
They also appealed to the government for support to enable them compete with their peers in the cities.

“We don’t have teachers. We want the government to give us teachers so that those in primary six can go to their class. We are joined by the class 5 and 6. We learn class six subjects and it’s difficult to understand,” One of the kids said.

Mr. Emmanuel Owusu, the headmaster of the school said the situation was seriously affecting effective teaching and learning in the school.
He revealed that, due to lack of teachers, he has merged the children in a structure with very little desks so the others are left with no other option than to sit on stones.

“We use bamboo for the fence but it fell on one of the kids, we have not had any help. We call on the government for help,” Mr Owusu said.
