John Dumelo accused of being an 'idol worshipper' over latest photo
Popular Ghanaian actor, John Dumelo, has come under fire on social media over a photo he recently posted on social media.
Dumelo posted an unusual photo of himself in church in the Canadian city of Montreal where he is on holidays.
In the photo sighted by YEN.com.gh, Dumelo was seen bowing and touching the feet of a statue on a crucifix which symbolises Jesus Christ for Catholics.
"Dear God.....I pray for everyone who’s pursuing their dreams. I pray You heal the sick, I pray you touch the aged, I pray you grant financial breakthrough for everyone. I pray you break all chains of bondage on anyone cursed. I pray whatever that is touched, turns to Gold. I pray for everyone here that by next week, you shall hear good news....," he captioned the photo on Instagram.

But the photo has caused a stir on Instagram as some of Dumelo's followers were divided over the meaning of the photo.

While many responded to his prayer with their 'amens', a notable number of them accused the actor of being an 'idol worshipper'
The issue of idol worship was raised by comedian @dkbghana who wrote: "2nd commandment: thou shall not bow to any graven image of anything in heaven, above the skies and below the earth"
Dumelo swiftly responded saying: "@dkbghana it's your faith that heals you bro. This is my faith and it's working"
But many others agreed with @dkbghana's point of view.
@prince_joseph3 even stated that it may be working for Dumelo but may not be right: "@johndumelo1 the fact that it works for you doesn't make it right one. It also works for ocultists who go before their graven images. @dkbghana You dey form for Bible inside pass."
@henryike51 supported DKB's point with some bible quotations: "@dkbghana bro you have said it all ...Exodus 20: 4, Psalm 115 down and many others talks about bowing down to image and God is a jealous God ...so be careful on what your faith leads u to and what you believe @johndumelo1 because he never said that we should bow down to any graven image in the name of worshiping him so beware,be warned don’t fall a victim thanks"
@congobeauty1 did not understand why Dumelo was worshipping a statue: "Why are you worshipping a statue???? @johndumelo1 your faith is in the statue???"

In fact, the debate was so heated that Dumelo had to posted the same photo with another caption to clarify the matter and his faith.
“I usually don’t respond to ‘negative ‘ comments on Instagram but these set of comments need clarification. I posted a picture of myself touching the feet of a statue Christ in a church in Montreal. Some people said it’s idol worshipping. Some said it’s blasphemy and others too said it’s occultism. If we all turn our bibles to Matthew 9:20–22, it’s talks about a woman touching the robe of Jesus to be healed. She said “ If I can just touch his robe, I will be healed”. That was her faith. And her faith healed her. When we go to certain churches these days, anointing oil, water etc are sold. Some are asked to pray over these and apply them to be healed. What about those that touch Tv’s to be healed? Is that idol worshipping? Is that occultism? No, it’s all in your faith. Faith is such a big influence if used correctly. I’m a proud catholic and I will never be ashamed of that. My catholic beliefs and principles have brought me this far and it’s taking me further. We all believe in one God. No need to judge. God bless us all. ”:
Born February 3, 1984, Dumelo is a Civil Engineering graduate from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

He is not known to respond to social media issues but it looks like this one really got to him.
Still on religion, YEN.com.gh reported earlier that Bishop Daniel Obinim has released the names six wealthy Ghanaians whose riches are from God.
According to Obinim, these people have been blessed by heaven and no amount of envy or jealousy can bring them down.
