At least 10 people have sustained severe bodily burns following a gas explosion that occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Trinity Gas Station in Krofrom in the Kumasi Metropolis.
Otecfmghana.com reports that several cars in and around the station were also destroyed beyond any repairs. The number and cost of property damaged is at the moment unknown.
The nearness of a mechanic's shop to the point of explosion only served to make the damages worse.
Fire personnel and residents who tried to fight the fire were among the earliest casualties of the explosion.
Otec FM reports fire personnel arrived immediately at the explosion scene following a distressed call.
The cause of the explosion at the premises of the station is currently unknown. However, it is believed that fire from a refuse dump site opposite the gas filling station may have played the awful part.
The National Disaster and Management Organization (NADMO) boss in the Ashanti Region in an interview in the aftermath of the explosion, said there was already a process underway in closing down the station.
He also said some nearby shops are still burning as at Tuesday morning, but the fire service has contained the situation at the gas filling station.
