The of hope of finding the body of Cardiff City star Emiliano Sala alongside his British pilot who went missing on January 21 has drawn nigh.

Investigators late Wednesday, February 6, announced they had recovered a body from the wreckage of the plane that was carrying the star forward.

"The body is currently being taken to Portland to be passed into the care of the Dorset Coroner,’' a statement read.

The ill-fated plane was discovered at the bottom of the English Channel after days of frantic searches.

According to a UK Metro report, a body was picked up by underwater cameras, but investigators are yet to publicly confirm its identity.

Investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) have been leading the search mission for days.

In statement released to the press, AAIB said the body has since been transferred to Portland, pending the affirmation of its identity.

The mission group further said attempts to recover the wreckage have been abandoned, citing bad weather.

An interim report on the plane accident will now be published within a month, with video of the wreckage set to provide valuable evidence for investigation.

Sala had just sealed a January move to Cardiff City from French side, Nantes, and was yet to kick a ball with the Championship side.

The 28-year-old went missing and his pilot moments after saying his goodbyes to his old teammates in France.
