Zongo youth reject NPP MP’s donation over failed promises in the Ashanti Region

- The Zongo Community at Agogo have rejected donations made by the MP for the area

- The move was to register their displeasure over failed promises by the lawmaker

Some Zongo youth at Agogo in the Ashanti region on Saturday, June 1, 2019, turned down items donated to them by their MP for the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Andy Appiah Kubi, who is the MP for Asante Akyem North Constituency, had intended to present bags of rice and cartons of milk to the youth.

However, they outrightly rejected the donation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP, saying he has failed to honour is promises to the constituency.

The Zongo youth lamented the deplorable state of roads in the area, which the MP promised to fix, but has so far failed to do so.

In a video that has gone viral, they are seen giving a hostile reception to District Chief Executive, Francis Oti Boateng, who visited the community to present the items on behalf of the MP.

While some of the youth were packing the items back into a nearby pick-up vehicle, others could be heard saying they are not “fowls” to be given rice.

Meanwhile, the leaders of the community who could be seen in the video did not show any sign of disapproval for the action of the youth.

On social media, though, many Muslims have backed the action of the Zongo youth, insisting it’s about time the youth held politicians accountable.

Muslims in the world and across the country began their 30-day fast in the month of Ramadan on Monday, 6 May 2019.
