UCC wins 2019 edition of Ghana Universities Debate Championship

- The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has lifted the trophy and earned the bragging rights as the new champions of debate in Ghana

- The University of Cape Coast (UCC) beat defending champions Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and one time champions University of Ghana (UG) to clinch the victory

- The win is the first for the University of Cape Coast since the inception of the competition

The University of Cape Coast (UCC) have emerged winners of the 6th edition of the annual Ghana Universities Debate Championship.

This year’s competition was held at the All Nations University College in Koforidua in the Eastern region.

UCC beat off competition from the University of Ghana and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to emerge champions.

This marks the first time that UCC has won the Ghana Universities Debate Championship, as KNUST won the competition last year.

The UCC team that won the competition was represented by Emmanuel Mylo Dadzie and Samuel Kojo Pinkrah.

In all, 10 universities took part in this year’s competition, including UCC, KNUST and the University of Ghana.

The others are University for Development Studies, University for Health and Allied Sciences, University of Energy and Natural Resources, University of Education Winneba-Kumasi, All Nations University College, Islamic University College, and Perez University College.

Meanwhile, 52 teams from all the participating universities battled it out for the ultimate bragging rights.

KNUST, University of Ghana, UDS and UENR presented 11, 10, 8 and 7 teams, respectively.

The Ghana Universities Debate Championship is modelled in the British Parliamentary style of debating.
