YEN.com.gh is in possession of a photo of the late Nana Sir Ofori Atta I, who was once the chief of the Akyem State.
In the photo that has emerged online, he is seen wearing traditional regalia and standing between two men, one of whom is holding an umbrella over his head.
The other is dressed as a pilot and is facing the traditional ruler and his subject.
Per a report by Ghana the Black Star of Africa, the photo was taken on August 27, 1934, when the chief had his first flight at the East Anglian Aero Club, Abridge, Essex.
YEN.com.gh has gathered that Nana Sir Ofori Atta I was the grandfather of Ghana’s current president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He had his education at the Basel Mission School which is now known as the Presbyterian College of Education, Akropong.
Two years after working in a seminary, he worked as a clerk and then joined the West African Frontier Force during the Yaa Asantewaa War.
He was elected as the Omanhene of Akyem Abuakwa in 1912 and also became a member of the Legislative Council in the Gold Coast four years later.
