CAF Awards 2019: Liverpool striker Sadio Mane named best African player

- CAF Awards 2019 saw Liverpool striker Sadio Mane winning the African Player of the year prize

- His performances last season for Liverpool in all competitions helped the Senegal international

- Mane finished second in the 2018 and 2017 editions behind Mohamed Salah

Liverpool and Senegalese striker Sadio Mane has been named as African's best footballer of the year for 2019 beating Mohamed Salah and Riyad Mahrez for the award.

Sadio Mane finished second behind Mohamed Salah in 2017 and 2018 and also finished third in 2016 before winning the 2019 edition thanks to his superb performances for Liverpool.

Last season in the Premier League, Sadio Mane finished among the three highest goal scorers and also won the Champions League title with Liverpool.

He also led Senegal to the final of the 2019 African Cup of Nations where they lost against Algeria in the final.

And this season, Sadio Mane has also been superb for Liverpool in the Premier League as the Reds remain the only side unbeaten this term.

El Hadji Diouf is the last Senegalese player who won the CAF Player of the Year award in 2002. The 38-year-old was playing for Liverpool then.

Meanwhile, after 19 Premier League games played this season, Sadio Mane has netted 11 goals for Liverpool as they stay on top of the standings with 58 points.

Earlier, YEN.com.gh had reported how Sadio Mane was given a brand new iPhone 11x Max pro mobile gadget by Liverpool teammate Georginio Wijnaldum as a gift last year, and the phone could be the one with a broken screen as seen recently.

The Senegalese star brought himself into the middle of backlashes after he was spotted carrying the iPhone despite earning £150,000-a-week.
