Herve Renard who is also the former Zambia and Cote d’Ivoire coach, said while working to Gyan during his Black Stars days, all the striker cared about was playing matches and not about training.
When Ghana hosted African cup in 2008, 51-year-old Herve was Ghana’s physical coach so he once worked with Gyan.
In an interview on TV3 and monitored by YEN.com.gh Herve Renard said though Asamoah is an amazing player, laziness stopped him from having a better career.
"The quality of Asamoah Gyan was amazing. I was always impressed with his timing of headers,” the Saudi Arabia coach said in an interview with TV3. He was a very good goalscorer, fantastic player, amazing player. But I have something to tell him. In training, he was lazy. He only likes the games. But he was the most important player but I know him and he didn’t like the training, he only likes the competition, the games,” he said .
Gyan is Ghana’s all-time top scorer and has been to two AFCON finals in 2010 and 2015 and played at three world cups, becoming Africa’s highest goalscorer at the global competition with 6 goals.
