A deadly plane crash saw two people lose their lives as they attempted to entertain the crowd during a gender reveal stunt.
The party held on a boat was to see a plane pass above them and reveal the gender of the yet to be born child, but the big moment never came.
According to TMZ, the party took place on the coast of Cancun, Mexico, where the parents-to-be had hired a plane to display a banner announcing they were having a girl.
However, as the plane performed a series of stunts over the water, things took a turn for the worst and the plane crashed head-on into the water.
The revellers could be heard screaming in horror as the craft plunged onto the Nichupte lagoon.
The accident that happened on Tuesday, March 30, took the lives of two pilots who were part of a four-person team on board the Cessna 206 aircraft.
One of the pilots reportedly died during the rescue efforts while the other died while being administered first aid on dry land.
It is still unclear what happened to lead to the crash, but investigation are underway.
In another party turned tragic, officials blamed a gender reveal party for one of several wildfires in California's US state.
This led even the creator of the said parties, Jenna Karvunidis, a parenting blogger, to condemn the parties after one was credited with starting the El Dorado Fire.
In a Facebook post shared by the blogger, she said she had been receiving hate messages for starting the trend by baking a cake with hidden pink icing inside it in 2008.
“Stop it. Stop having these stupid parties. For the love of God, stop burning things down to tell everyone about your kid's penis. No one cares but you," she posted.
The BBC indicated a smoke-generating pyrotechnic device used to create coloured smoke in a gender reveal party sparked the El Dorado fire.
As of Tuesday, September 8, the fire in San Bernardino County had overtaken 10,574 acres and was 16% contained.
The influencer was also worried about how she might be portrayed after her post made it to the US's mainstream media.
Within the past decade, gender reveal parties have taken off in popularity, sometimes resulting in chaos.
