507 illegal immigrants arrested in Upper East region; processes underway to repatriate them

- Security officials in Ghana have arrested some 507 illegal immigrants in the country

- They were arrested in the Upper East region after sneaking into the country via unapproved routes

- Police say they are being prepared to be sent back

Information gathered by YEN.com.gh indicates that 507 illegal immigrants have been arrested in the Upper East region.

The arrest was conducted by a combined team of officers of the Ghana Police Service, Immigration, and the National Security on Sunday, April 25, 2021, the police said in a statement on Tuesday.

They are made of 494 Nigerians including 6 females and 13 Burkinabes.

According to the police statement, they entered the country via unapproved routes.

Per a report sighted on 3news.com, they are being processed for repatriation.

In the meantime, profiles of the Nigerians are being shared with security counterparts in Nigeria to find out whether they were part of the announced jailed breakers.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported the arrest of 19 Nigerians on board a VW Crafter bus with registration number GR-5314-21.

They were headed to Madina from Aflao when they were arrested.

The Ghana police service had been on red alert since April 5, when it was announced that over 1000 prisoners had escaped from prison in Nigeria.

Already, some nine prisoners who broke jail in Nigeria on April 5, 2021, had been arrested in the country.

They were apprehended by the Ada District Police Command in the Greater Accra Region.

The police said the fugitives were closely monitored based on intelligence as they crossed the Volta River into Ada Foh on Sunday, April 18.

Moving away from crime to politics, Lydia Forson said she is not enthused with the performance of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo one bit.

The award-winning screen goddess in the latest tweet sighted by YEN.com.gh expressed serious concerns with the Akufo-Addo’s administration mediocre performance since taking over in 2017.

“My biggest frustration with this government is that for years they sold themself as the solution to all of Ghana’s problems- but see,” she wrote.

Acknowledging the administration has had some policies, she added: “But you didn’t promise us average, you promised EXCEPTIONAL?!! So what happened?”
