Daddy Lumba’s radio station, DL 106.9FM, has sparked controversy after wishing the late singer’s first wife, Akosua Serwaa, a happy birthday.

Legendary highlife singer, Daddy Lumba, passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.
He left behind a complicated family dynamic, with his abusuapanyin confirming he was survived by two wives - Akosua Serwaa and Odo Broni - and eleven children.
After his death, a fierce battle has raged on social media and beyond between two alleged factions, each backing either Akosua Serwaa or Odo Broni as Lumba’s only legitimate wife.
Daddy Lumba’s wife celebrates birthday
DL FM, the radio station founded and financed by the late singer and operated by his close collaborators, shared a photo of Akosua Serwaa on September 1, 2025 and wished her a happy birthday.
“Wishing a very Happy Birthday to Akosua Serwaa! God Bless You 🎂✨| #DLFM.” the post read.
The birthday message, which went viral on social media, sparked a fierce backlash over the failure to properly address her as Daddy Lumba’s first wife.

All about Daddy Lumba’s wives and children
According to reports, Daddy Lumba met his first wife, Akosua Serwaa, in Germany in the 1980s when he was starting out as a highlife musician with Nana Acheampong.
Akosua Serwaa reportedly financed their first album in 1989, which served as the springboard to the singer’s legendary career.
Their marriage produced four children before Lumba married his second wife, Priscilla Ofori-Atta, popularly known as Odo Broni, with whom he also had five children.
While publicly the two women have remained cordial, tension continues to exist between their two camps.

During the one-week observance of Daddy Lumba’s death, his younger sister, Faustina Fosu, who is very close to Akosua Serwaa, also sparked backlash after being accused of snubbing Odo Broni and refusing to greet her.

Reactions to DL FM’s Akosua Serwaa message
Ghanaians on social media criticised the handlers of the radio station's social media accounts for the manner in which the message was presented.
Many claimed that the message was a deliberate move by the Odo Broni faction to denigrate Akosua Serwaa to cement the perception that she was Daddy Lumba’s only legitimate wife.

Akosua Serwaa's 'sister' blasts Odo Broni
