Police Officers Promoted After Busting Notorious Bank Robbery Gang

The police administration has promoted 11 officers for their role in busting a robbery gang behind rural bank robberies.

The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, announced the promotions on September 24, 2025.

Yohuno said the bust was a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime.

Three Chief Inspectors were promoted to Assistant Superintendents of Police.

Three Inspectors were promoted to Chief Inspector, two Sergeants promoted to Inspector, one Corporal promoted to Sergeant, and three Constables promoted to Lance Corporals.

The bust was the result of a six-month intelligence operation that led to the arrest of 10 suspects. Three suspected robbers were also killed in clashes with police.

The gang carried out the robberies in the Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions. These incidents occurred between April and September 2025.

Police retrieved 14 weapons, including AK-47 rifles stolen from officers during earlier attacks, GH¢18,845, foreign currencies, vehicles, motorbikes, and jewellery.

An AK-47 belonging to Corporal Francis Eduyao, who was killed on the Bibiani-Goaso highway in November 2024, was also recovered.

Two suspects, including an ex-convict identified as Kwabena Owusu-Ansah were apprehended.

IGP promotes officers for rescuing robbery victims

These promotions come after Yohuno promoted two police officers after they rescued two robbery victims in August.

The officers also apprehended seven suspects during an operation in the Greater Accra and Eastern regions.

The first promoted officer was Chief Inspector Patience Kotoka, stationed at the Anyaa District Police Command.

She has been recommended for the next Police Cadet Course at the Police Academy to be commissioned into the Senior Officer Corps upon successful completion.

The second officer was Constable Joseph Akondoh, also from the same command, who had been elevated to the rank of Lance Corporal. They were promoted during a ceremony on August 8.

GNA reported that the promotions followed an operation on August 7, 2025, at Ablekuma Borkorborkor.

Before this operation, in July, the Ghana Police Service successfully crushed a planned robbery in Accra following an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters.

According to a statement released by the police on July 22, 2025, credible intelligence showed that five armed men were lodging at a hotel in Labadi and planning to rob a foreign national at Cantonments.

Police foil GH¢1.3 million gold robbery attempt

YEN.com.gh reported that police busted three suspects who had planned to rob a gold consignment valued at over GH¢1.3 million.

The suspects were identified as Adams Zibo, Massawud Yussif and Kenneth Khartey.

Police said its Special Support Unit (SSU) commenced the operation on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, following indications that a gold dealer’s driver and a man posing as his bodyguard had conspired to rob a scheduled gold delivery the following day.
