How Awutu Senya East MP’s Bodyguards Allegedly Used Fake Police Uniforms to Rob GH¢165k

• Two security guards attached to Awutu Senya East MP Naa Koryoo Okunor were arrested in connection with an armed robbery targeting a gold dealer
• The suspects allegedly wore tactical police and military uniforms issued for their official duties during the attack on the victim
• Investigators traced one suspect after he left his wallet with personal identification at the scene of the robbery

Two security personnel assigned to protect the Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Naa Koryoo Okunor, have been arrested and charged in connection with the armed robbery of a gold dealer.

A report by GhanaWeb indicated that the accused, 31-year-old Justice Kpappo Mingle and Justice Mensah, allegedly exploited their official positions to commit the crime, using tactical police and military uniforms they had been issued as part of their security duties during the attack.

Gold dealer robbed on route from Denkyie to Fomena

The victim, George Osei Tutu, was travelling from Denkyie to Fomena transporting gold valued at GH¢165,000 when the suspects intercepted his vehicle.

According to investigators, the duo forced Osei Tutu's car off the road onto a bush path, seized the gold, confiscated his car keys and personal belongings, and fled the scene.

The two men briefly concealed themselves in nearby bushes to dispose of their gear before making their way to Adansi Asokwa and subsequently heading in the direction of Kasoa.

Wallet left at scene led police to suspects

The investigation moved swiftly after Mingle accidentally left his wallet, containing personal identification documents, at the scene.

Police used the discovery to track him to Nyanyano, where he was apprehended.

Upon interrogation, Mingle allegedly confessed to his role in the robbery and subsequently led investigators to Mensah, who was arrested at Akweley.

Investigators further established that the suspects had received a tip-off about Osei Tutu's movement from the victim's own excavator driver, identified as Festus, suggesting the robbery was premeditated.

Both Mingle and Mensah are currently standing trial before the Bekwai Circuit Court.

Awutu Senya East NPP demand MPs arrest

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh reported that some NPP supporters in Kasoa had called for the arrest of Awutu Senya East MP Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunor over alleged false claims.

The supporters had accused her of peddling lies against her predecessor, Mavis Hawa Koomson, and had demanded a public apology.

Their demand had followed a government report that blamed election-day violence in the constituency on security failures rather than political attacks.
