Former Ghana player Otto Addo set to be appointed assistant coach at Dortmund

Former Ghana international of German birth, Otto Addo, is set to be appointed as the assistant coach at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund come the 2019/2020 football season.

Early reports picked up by has it that former Ghana international, Otto Addo, is going to be named the senior assistant coach at Borussia Dortmund come the 2019/2020 Bundesliga season.

Addo, who is currently assistant to Dieter Hecking at rivals Borussia Moenchengladbach, played for Dortmund for six years between 1999 and 2005.

The former Dortmund attacking midfielder's new role will see him also serve as a link between the senior team and the youth team.

Addo will oversee the promotion of youth players to the first team.

The 43-year-old scored 11 goals in 75 appearances between 1999 and 2005.

He won the Bundesliga title with Borussia Dortmund in the 2001-02 season and helped the club reach the UEFA Cup final in the same season.

Otto Addo represented Ghana at the FIFA World Cup in 2006, making two appearances at the mundial as the West Africans reach the round of 16 in Germany.

He will be the second Ghanaian ascending to an influential technical seat at a major European club after Gerald Asamoah.

Until his appointment, Asamoah was the coach of Schalke's under-23 side. He will work with Huub Stevens and Mike Hubskens at the senior side.
