Black Stars Job: Joachim Low Breaks Silence on Taking Over After Otto Addo's Sack
- Joachim Low has finally addressed the growing speculation linking him to the vacant Black Stars coaching job
- The experienced German tactician is widely seen as a strong candidate to replace Otto Addo ahead of the World Cup

Ghana’s search for a new Black Stars coach has suffered another blow after Joachim Low dismissed reports linking him to the vacant role.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is under pressure to find a suitable replacement for Otto Addo.
Low had emerged as a strong contender, but his latest comments have cast serious doubt on any potential move.

Joachim Low reacts to Ghana coaching role
Reports earlier suggested that the GFA had made contact with the former Germany boss and that discussions were progressing well.
His pedigree, built around managing elite players and implementing a clear football identity, made him an attractive option for a team in transition.
Low boasts an impressive résumé that underlines his pedigree at the highest level.
He guided Germany to the European Championship final in 2008 and reached the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup, as well as Euro 2012 and Euro 2016.
His crowning achievement came with World Cup glory in 2014, followed by the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2017, before stepping down in 2021 after 15 years in charge.
Given Ghana’s current situation, his experience appeared to fit the moment. The Black Stars have been without a coach since March 31, and time is not on their side.
However, Low has now moved to shut down the speculation.
"Officially, no one from Ghana has spoken to me," he told Sky Sports.
That response has effectively ended talk of his possible appointment, forcing the GFA to turn its attention elsewhere.
GFA hunts for Otto Addo's replacement
Low’s stance mirrors that of Walid Regragui, who has also ruled himself out of the running. The Moroccan tactician is understood to have asked not to be considered, further narrowing the list of high-profile candidates.
Attention has now shifted to other options. Paulo Bento is among the names reportedly in contention from a pool of over 600 applicants.
There is also growing interest in Kwesi Appiah, who is currently in charge of Sudan. Sources suggest he would be open to returning, whether on a permanent basis or in an interim role.
Another name in the mix is Herve Renard. The experienced Frenchman remains under contract with Saudi Arabia, but recent poor results have placed his position under scrutiny. If he becomes available, Ghana could move quickly.
Despite the setbacks, GFA president Kurt Okraku has assured fans that a new coach will be appointed within two weeks.
With the World Cup just around the corner, the next decision could define Ghana’s chances at the global stage.
The 3 requirements for next Ghana coach
In another report, YEN.com.gh stated that the GFA has set three key requirements for the next Black Stars coach after the dismissal of Otto Addo.
FA president Kurt Okraku says the new coach must command respect, have a strong track record, and be able to restore belief within the squad.
