The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has reportedly opened negotiations with former Germany head coach Joachim Low over the vacant Black Stars job.
This development follows the departure of Otto Addo, with the GFA acting quickly to secure a high-profile replacement as preparations begin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Addo’s time in charge ended just 72 days before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and the numbers behind his tenure paint an unfortunate picture.
He oversaw eight wins, five draws and nine defeats in 22 matches, with Ghana scoring 35 goals and conceding 28, according to Transfermarkt.
Beyond the statistics, questions were raised about the team’s playing style and consistency.
Defeats to Austria and Germany ultimately sealed his fate, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) deciding during a reported meeting in Stuttgart.
Since his departure, several names have emerged as potential replacements.
Walid Regragui is among the leading candidates, although the former Morocco national handler has reportedly signalled that he is not interested.
Hervé Renard is also in the frame, with the Frenchman reportedly without a job after leaving his role in Saudi Arabia and still a respected figure in African football.
Ghana FA opens talks with Joachim Low
Ghanasoccernet now reports that Joachim Low is on the radar of the Ghana FA.
Sources close to the situation indicate that initial discussions between the two parties have been positive, with the German tactician showing genuine interest in taking on the role.
Low is currently assessing the project in detail, including the composition of Ghana’s squad, the existing technical structure, and the long-term vision for the team.
Having famously led Germany to victory at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he is widely regarded as one of the most experienced and accomplished managers at the moment.

His proven ability to manage top-level talent and implement a clear, effective football philosophy positions him as a strong candidate to guide Ghana through this transitional period.
The GFA’s move to approach Low highlights its ambition to rebuild and reset the Black Stars after a difficult run of results in recent international matches, which has raised concerns about the team’s readiness for upcoming competitions.
Ghana are determined to make a significant impact at the 2026 World Cup, where they have been drawn in a challenging group alongside England, Croatia, and Panama, who defeated South Africa recently.
Ongoing negotiations are expected to centre around key aspects such as contract terms, the composition of the backroom staff, and immediate performance objectives.
With limited time before the next international window, the GFA is keen to finalise an appointment as quickly as possible.
Awudu Issaka urges GFA to appoint Kwesi Appiah over Joachim Löw
Meanwhile, former Ghana youth star Awudu Issaka insists the Ghana Football Association should appoint Kwesi Appiah over Joachim Löw.
He told YEN.com.gh:
“Kwesi Appiah already knows most of the current players, and that familiarity is very important at this stage.”
“The World Cup is too close to bring in a new coach who does not know the players well,” he added.
Issaka further noted that “the timing does not favour a completely new philosophy, so experience within the Ghana setup is crucial.”
Ghana pay price for sacking Otto Addo
YEN.com.gh also reported that Otto Addo’s dismissal will come with a significant financial burden for Ghana.
Although the decision may be driven by a poor run of results, this could still carry a major cost for the country.
