Michael Carrick has urged Manchester United supporters not to panic after his side suffered a shock 2-0 defeat to newly promoted Hull City at the MKM Stadium.
The result was a major setback for United, who had entered the new campaign with renewed optimism after finishing third in the Premier League last season and securing Champions League football.
Hull, meanwhile, were playing their first top-flight game in nine years but looked composed enough to claim their first-ever Premier League victory over United.

Carrick reacts to Manchester United defeat
Hull took the lead after Oli McBurnie's effort was pushed onto the post by United goalkeeper Senne Lammens, allowing Semi Ajayi to react quickest and score from the rebound.
Club-record signing Nobel Mendy then doubled the advantage on his debut, heading home from Regan Slater's free-kick.
Speaking to TNT Sports via Goal, Carrick admitted United have work to do but insisted the defeat would not derail their progress.
"Two goals is frustrating anyway; they decided the game today and there's things to improve on. One game doesn't change the direction of everything. It doesn't change the direction of the football club," he said.
The United boss also acknowledged that falling behind made the task harder.
"We have a bit to improve on; it was never going to be perfect. Going behind makes it more difficult. Against a promoted team at home, we can't give them much, and they had opportunities. We're disappointed, but it won't knock us. It's for us to know and to improve during the week and keep getting stronger as a group, and we have a lot to learn from it."

What's next for Hull and Man Utd?
Hull now travel to fellow newcomers Coventry City, while United will look to bounce back when they host Ipswich Town.
After such a disappointing start, Carrick will hope his players can provide a response quickly.
