Meet the national security operative who trained for only three weeks

Bright Ernest Akomea, also know as Double is the national security operative who received only three weeks of training as a recruit before passing out.

Double told the Emile Short Commission of Inquiry Tuesday, March 5, 2019 that before joining the national security he was a mobile phone dealer in Accra.

Testifying at the Commission looking into the Ayawaso by-election violence, he said, he has been working as a national security operative assigned to the VIP lounge at the Kotoko International Airport for two years.

He became a person of interest to the Commission probing the January 31, 2019 incident when the member of parliament for Ningo Prampram, Mr Sam Nartey George testified before the Commission that he (Double) was among the masked national security operatives who shot into a crowd that had gathered at the residence of the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Mr Delali Kwasi Brempong, which injured 16 victims.

Apart from the rather short duration of training he received to become a national security officer, Mr. Akomea also said he broke the law on two occasion for Ningo Prampram MP, Sam Dzata George.

He told the Commission he helped Sam George’s visitors use the VIP when they did not qualify.

Again, Double said he intervened when Sam George had an issue with the La  Dadekotopong Municipal Assembly guards who clamped his car and were towing it after he parked at the wrong place.

He also denied ever having any association with the NPP’s Invisible Forces. But rather served as served as a polling station executive for the NPP.

Mr. Bright Ernest Akomea’s testimony at the Ayawaso Commission of Inquiry received a lot of interesting comments from the public who expressed shock and disappointment at the requirement for one to be recruited into the national security.
