Tony Yeboah and other Ghana players who were captains of top European teams

Ghanaian footballers have played football in Europe significantly since the 1980s.

One way in which Ghanaians measure if their heroes are appreciated by Europeans is whether they are captains of their teams.

Hundreds of Ghanaians, if not thousands, have played professional football in Europe since the 80s and one way in which Ghanaians measure if our players are appreciated, is if these players have risen to the role of captain.

A captain is a big role in any football team. A coach may be in-charge of inspiring a team but a captain is the coach's mind and voice on the pitch.

A captain needs to bring his or her players together and this requires that they have the respect of everyone.

These current and ex professional Ghana players managed to be the substantive captains at elite European sides.
