Download of videoconferencing apps hit 62 million in March 2020 - Report

Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that there have been about 62 million downloads of videoconferencing apps in March 2020 alone.

The new development has been influenced by work-from-home policies, social distancing and lockdowns initiated by governments.

The highest rate of downloads was recorded between March 14 and 21, and the apps were for both business and personal use, according to a report by App Annie, a research app.

A TechCrunch report shows that the apps were downloaded from both the Apple-owned App Store and the Google-owned Play Store.

The rate of download was 45% higher than a week before and is reported to be the highest growth rate in any category in the app stores.

Reports say much of the growth can be attributed to the increase in the use of apps such as Microsoft Teams and Zoom Cloud Meetings.

It has also been confirmed that Zoom became the most downloaded app all over the world in February and March, and continues to record high numbers in the United Kingdom (UK), United States of America (USA) and elsewhere in Europe.

Meanwhile, the video conferencing app, Zoom, shares the user’s data with Facebook, even without the use of a Facebook account, YEN.com.gh has gathered.

Zoom has gained popularity as more people opt to work from home and an analysis of the app has showed that Facebook receives notifications anytime the user logs on.

Information available shows that the iOS version of the app shares data analytics with the social media platform.
