Kweku Baako wins GHC130k suit against NPP MP Kennedy Agyapong in defamation case

Ace journalist, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, has won a defamation suit against the New Patriotic Party's Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong.

An Accra High Court on Friday, June 26, 2020, ruled that the firebrand legislator pays GHC100,000 damages and a cost of GHC30,000 totaling GHC130,000, for making defamatory comments against the Editor-in-Chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper.

The seasoned journalist went to court after Mr. Agyapong defamed him on his radio station, Oman FM.

Mr. Baako says the MP used strong words against him and further dared him to go to court.

The court gave Mr. Kennedy Agyapong 30 days to retract and apologies thrice on the same platform he used in defaming the journalist.

Mr. Baako had sued the Assin Central MP at the Accra High Court, seeking damages to the sum of GH¢25 million for defamation.

According to Mr Baako, the lawmaker defamed him on a radio talk show called Boiling Point on Oman FM and Adom Badwam talk show on Adom FM on separate dates.

Mr. Baako also asked the court to direct the MP to publish an unqualified retraction and an apology.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that the Member of Parliament of Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong turned 60 years old on June 16, 2020.

The MP has been in the news over the years for good and bad reasons.

In an interview with Citi TV on Sunday, June 14, 2020, the MP and business mogul revealed that he made his first million dollars at age 36 in 1996.
