Kennedy Agyapong was born on June 16, 1960, in Assin Dompim in Ghana’s Central Region to the late Mary Nsiah and Francis Ohene Kofi Agyapong.
He began his secondary education at Adisadel College in 1976 and later obtained his GCE certificate from Winneba Secondary School in 1983.
He subsequently furthered his studies at Fordham University in New York, USA, after completing his education in Ghana.

Kennedy Agyapong entered politics in 2000 when he won the Assin North parliamentary seat on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket, going on to serve multiple terms as a Member of Parliament.
Known for his outspoken and fearless style, he remained active in parliamentary affairs until he shifted focus toward contesting the NPP’s flagbearer position.
In 2022, he announced he would not seek re-election to Parliament and instead pursued higher political ambition by entering the 2023 NPP presidential primaries, where he finished second to Mahamudu Bawumia, a result he also repeated in the party’s subsequent flagbearer race ahead of the 2028 elections.
