William Addo Dankwa Akufo –Addo is Ghanaian politician famous for being the current serving president of the country. He took over the presidency office from John Dramani Mahama last year, 2017. Before his presidency term, Nana Akufo-Addo served the country as the Attorney General from the year 2001-2003. When was Nana Akufo-Add0 born? Nana Akufo education

Nana Akufo-Addo pursed his primary level at Government Boys School, which is located at Adabraka. He moved to Kinbu School (by then it used to be referred to as Rowe Road School.) Nana Akufo-Addo later travelled all the way to England to pursue his O-Level & A-Level exams in Sussex at Lancing College. While at the college, his schoolmates gave him ‘Billy’ as his nickname.

In 1962, Akufo-Addo commenced on another course of Philosophy, politics & Economics at New College- Oxford. Afterwards, he made his returns to his country Ghana, that was back in 1962 and he taught at the Accra Academy. In 1964, Nana Akufo-Addo decided to continue with his studies at University of Ghana Legon; he pursed a degree in Economics and graduated back in the year 1964. He then trained to be a lawyer at the Inner Temple under ‘Inns of Court’ apprenticeship system.

Nana Akufo-Addo career

After responding to English bar in 1971 and Ghanaian bar in 1975, Nana Akufo-Addo was able to gain law-working experience at Paris Office that belonged to the firm of United States America law Coudert Brothers. Later in 1979, Akufo-Addo co-founded the firm, Prempeh & Co. Nana Akufo-Addo education background one can tell that he is a very hard working as well as a dedicated Ghanaian.

The influential Ghanaian had interest in politics and so he joined People’s Movement for Freedom and Justice. That organization that he joined was formed for the purpose of opposing General Ignatius Kutu Acheampong Government proposals; he led the military of Ghana back in the year 1972 to 1978.

Nana Akufo-Addo was also among an elite group responsible for forming Alliance for change. That alliance used to organize demonstrations against policies that they referred to as neo-liberal. They included the VAT introduction in Ghana as well as violations of human rights of Rawling presidency. The collapsing of the alliance organization was due to most of its member’s interest in leadership positions. Nana Akufo-Addo later in 1990s he formed ‘Ghana’s Committee on Human and People’s Rights, which was an organization dealing with civil rights.

What about Nana Akufo-Addo presidential bids? The Ghanaian politician has campaigned for the presidential seat for a number of terms. His first attempt was in 1998 though John Kofi Agyekum Kufuor who served as the president of Ghana from 2001 to 2009 defeated him. In John Kofi term, Nana Akufo-Addo served as the Attorney General & Minister for Justice. He later became the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as NEPAD, New Partnership for African’s Development.

Nana Akufo-Addo was a renowned member of NPP party and therefore he won the presidential primaries in 2007. In 2008, elections were had but he lost to the late John Atta Mills who belonged to NDC party. He did not lose hope because some words do not exist in his dictionary. He tried yet again in 2012 though he lost to John Dramani Mahama. This time Nana Akufo-Addo had refused the outcome verdict at first, but he later accepted after taking the controversy to Ghana Supreme Court.

The amusing part is that Nana Akufo-Addo still tried to bid for the presidential candidate of NPP party for the 3rd time, that was during 2016 election. This time round he won with 94.35% of the total votes. By that time, he was serving at the Commonwealth Observer Mission chair for SA (South Africa) 2014 elections. Nana Akufo-Addo must be very proud of his efforts, he took his time to campaign for the Ghanaian votes. Some of the promises that he gave include creating employment and stabilizing the foreign exchange of the country. Finally, he won with a percentage of 53.83% to John Dramani Mahama who obtained 44.4% of the total votes. Ghanaians are eager to know if Nana Akufo-Addo will fulfil his promises to them.

The serving president of Ghana is now Akufo-Addo; he took over the presidential office on January 7th 2017. We believe that he inspired many people who lose hope faster in life. After several attempts, he made it to led Ghanaians to success. The inauguration washeld in Accra at Black Star Square. A total of 12 African as well as European presidents, attended it. Some of the presidents that did not miss the ceremony include Abdel Fattah el-Sisi (Egypt president), Edgar Lungu (Zambia president). Ernest Bai Koroma (Sierra Leone president), Muhammadu Buhari (the president of Nigeria), and Robert Mugabe (Zimbambwe president). However, there were global blacklash about Akufo-Addo’s speech during his inauguration; the day was a complete success. This is because he apologized for plagiarizing other president’s speech.

Nana Akufo-Addo was born to a royal, prominent, as well as a political family. His mother being Adeline Akufo-Addo and the father Edward. Edward Akufo-Addo hailed from Akropong- Akuapem and he was the 3rd chief justice in Ghana his term being 1966 to the year 1970. His father also served as the chair of 1967-1968 constitutional & the non-executive Ghana president from 1970 to 1972. The man from the Eastern region of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo also married a lady with a political family background as well. His wife is called Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the daughter of Jacob Hackenburg Griffiths-Randolph who was a renowned judge and he was the speaker of the third-republic of the Ghana parliament. The lovely couple renewed the wedding vows while celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on April 12th last year, 2017. They danced romantically making many to have a green envy over their boundless love.

Nana Akufo-Addo first wife was referred to as Remi and his second wife Eleanor Nkansah-Dwamina. He married Rebecca 20 years ago (now 21) after his previous marriages.

Last year, June 29th 2017, Nana Akufo-Addo daughters, Edwina and Gyankroma joined hands with Valerie Obaze to partner with the Glam African Magazine to support those who are affected with autism at AACT, Autism Awareness Care and Training Care that is located in Accra. Autism is a serious disease that affects a very percentage of Africans; the estimated figure is 1 kids in every 150 kids born. What is Autism? It is a disease that causes neurodevelopment disorder. It only affects kids at their early stage of life making them to have a challenge in communicating. The kids also becomes very emotional. Their target support project was worth GHC250, 000. That humble act impressed very many Ghanaians.

Nana Akufo-Addo achievements

What are the achievements of Nana Akufo-Addo so far since he took over the presidential office? He has introduced free SHS, senior high schools, education, he made the allowance of the nursing trainee to be restored, he launched ‘National Digital Property Addressing System, and he supported the take-off of paperless transactions at every port in Ghana. Yes, more need to be done in the country, but he has to be acknowledged for the little he has done.
