The Minister for Communications and Digitisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has broken her silence on the closure of two stations belonging to Patience Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
In a Facebook post sighted by YEN.com.gh on her page, she mentioned that at about 10:00 pm on April 20, 2021, a joint team of Police and National Security Intelligence Operatives, in collaboration with the National Communications Authority carried out the operation.
The TV stations, namely, Thunder TV and Ice1 TV, according to her, were illegally transmitting without licenses at Kasoa in the Central Region.
Ursula confirmed that the team arrested the offenders, including the owner of Thunder TV, Nana Agradaa.
The team also seized the equipment used in the illegal transmission from both premises.
The minister said the influx of unregulated television stations on air has led to the promotion of certain content which may affect public order, public morality, and the rights and reputation of others.
In view of that, her office is putting in efforts to rid the system of the canker and reduce overcrowding on Ghana’s airwaves.
Some Ghanaians have commented on the development.

Please Honorable Minister, We can name some of those TV stations; Best TV, Akasanoma TV, TV Magic, virgin TV, Bry TV, we have a lot of them in the country.
Hasana Abubakari believes the provisions in Chapter 12 of the constitution should be amended.
I think it's high time the provisions made in chapter 12 of the 1992 constitution is amended. With regards to media ownership, no individual who relish to own a media station should be given a chance.
