But, they are actually not the first billionaire couple whose marriage hit the rocks and probably won't be the last YEN.com.gh spotlights 5 of the wealthy divorces in history with expensive settlements.

1. Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Bezos ($35 billion)
The divorce of Jeff Bezos and Mackenzie Bezos on July 5, 2019 is not only the most expensive divorce of all time but 'scattered' the female billionaire list, according to GQIndia.
This is because Mackenzie became the third wealthiest woman in the world following the divorce settlement that saw her get 4% outstanding Amazon shares worth over $35 billion.
2. Alec Wildenstein and Jocelyn Wildenstein ($3.8 billion)
Alec Wildenstein and Jocelyn Wildenstein's 1999 divorce cost a whopping sum of $3.8 billion.
The couple who had been married for 21 years would have been number one on the spot were it not for the Bezos.
Jocelyn, as part of the settlement, was to get $100 million every year for a period of 13 years in her addition to the $2.8 billion one-time settlement, GQIndia claims.
3. Bill and Sue Gross ($1.3 billion)
Infamously known as the messiest divorce in history, Bill and Sue's split in 2016 reduced one and lifted the other, Forbes reports.
This is as Sue went on to get $1.3 billion in 2017 along with a $36 million Laguna Beach house, a 1932 picasso painting which sold for $35 million and so forth. She became a billionaire instantly.
Bill on the other hand, didn't recover financially from the divorce saga as his fortunes dropped.
4. Harold Hamm and Sue Ann Arnall ($975 million)
Harold Hamm and Sue Ann Arnall ended their 26 years marriage with Harold writing Sue a check of $975 million as they didn't have a prenup, GQIndia stated.
She accepted the settlement only to later file for an appeal in a bid to lay her hands on some faction of Harold's 75% publicly traded Continental Resources that is in the region of $13.7 billion. But she didn't succeed.
5. Bill and Melinda Gates
Power couple and philanthropists, Bill and Melinda Gates, are the latest on this list following their joint statement on Twitter on Monday, May 3, 2021.
Though the details of their divorce settlement hasn't been made public, it sure will be one of the most expensive considering Bill Gates is worth $129.9 billion.

This came after there were a number of reports that the couple was no longer coping and were headed for splitsville. The two are super famous in their own rights and there's a lot of wealth between them. There's plenty at stake for the couple, houses, cars, and four children.
Kim had filed for divorce on February 19 and has asked for joint custody of their children. The reality star has said that she doesn't want to get in the way of Kanye being a father to his kids.
