Manchester United have re-signed their former talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, in a sensational transfer.

United confirmed the signing of Ronaldo from Italian giants Juventus on Twitter on Friday, August 27, 2021.

Return after 12 years

Cristiano Ronaldo is returning to United and the English Premier League after leaving for Real Madrid in Spain in 2009.

Ronaldo joined United from Sporting Lisbon as an 18-year-old prodigy in 2003. He went on to develop into a world-class footballer under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson.

He scored 118 goals in 292 games for United before joining Madrid.

Details of the deal

According to a BBC report, United agreed to pay £21.3m for the 36-year-old five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

As of the time of the report, the deal was subject to personal terms, visa, and a medical which was expected to be held in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon.

He is reportedly being signed on a two-year contract.

Man City link

The transfer of Ronaldo to United has come as a big surprise as the striker had been highly linked with a move to Manchester City.

City boss Pep Guardiola had made it known in a recent remark about Man City's lack of scoring goals that the club needed a striker.

Ronaldo was the person who had been reportedly penciled to fill the gap after City lost out on Tottenham's Harry Kane.

Some reports had even suggested that Ronaldo had turned down an offer from United and opted to join their city rivals.

But it turned out the other way leaving City ruing.

Ronaldo says goodbyes at Juventus

Earlier, Cristiano Ronaldo had said his goodbyes to his teammates at Juventus.

The Portuguese striker arrived at the club’s training ground on Friday morning only to empty his locker and leave after an hour later.
