Ghanaian Abroad Caught Trying To Fraudulently Get Driver's License By Using Lookalike To Take Test

  • A Ghanaian man in Belgium is facing one year in prison because of alleged fraud during a driving test
  • The man hired a lookalike to trick examiners and take the test on his behalf after failing 12 previous times

A Ghanaian man living in Grammont, Belgium was trying to secure a driving license with a lookalike.

The man, identified as Serge, contracted the lookalike to take the driving test after 12 previous failings.

According to reports from Belgium, Serge needed the license to open up more lucrative work opportunities.

He had searched for the lookalike for some time before settling on Julien, an immigrant from Congo.

The two plotted to beat the system by targeting examiners they believed would be more lenient.

But their plan backfired when the examiners detected the fraud by being able to differentiate between the two.

“Without the vigilance of this person [the examiner], he would have received his driving license, even though he is not capable of driving on our roads,” a prosecutor said.

Serge is facing a charge of identity fraud and faces a year in prison with a suspended sentence.

Homeless man abroad begs to return to Ghana

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh stated that a Ghanaian in Italy detailed his experiences as a homeless man.

Wofa Thomas, also visually handicapped, is said to have been denied citizenship by the Ghana Embassy in Rome and has been abandoned to the elements.

He travelled to Rome after being informed that he would be able to collect his documents and return to Ghana, but he has been left trapped.

Six Ghanaians were arrested in the US for their involvement in cyber fraud.

YEN.com.gh reported that the six Ghanaians have been charged for laundering more than $50 million.

They were arrested in different states at different times.

Another Ghanaian living in Canada said she applied for her visa on her own without the help of any agent.

Angela Sarpong said she applied for her Canadian visa after she read the requirements and ensured she met them all.

Angela said she was not keen on travelling but was only trying her luck when she got the visa.
