Legendary Ghanaian gospel group, Tagoe Sisters, grabbed attention at the one-week commemoration of the late Member of Parliament (MP) for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi.

The former New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP died on Monday, July 7, 2025 at the age of 40 from a heart attack.

He had gone on a trip the previous day and returned early in the morning when he fell ill, according to his brother.

Speaking to the press, the late legislator’s sibling said he complained of chest pains and was consequently rushed to the Lister Hospital in Spintex.

Ernest Kumi died shortly after arrival at the hospital, as all attempts to save him proved futile.

Following initial speculation, the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, confirmed his cause of death as heart failure during a speech read on his behalf on the floor of the house.

Tagoe sisters steal show at Kumi’s one-week

Legendary Ghanaian singing group, Tagoe Sisters, courted online attention after appearing at the one-week commemoration for the late Akwatia MP.

Kumi's one-week, held at Akyem Wenchi in the Eastern Region, attracted bigwigs from the NPP and the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as other notable Ghanaians.

Tagoe Sisters, composed of twins Lydia Dedei and Elizabeth Korkoi Tagoe, showed up at the event to show their support to the late MP.

They arrived in matching traditional mourning attire that caught the eye.

Their flowing black and deep red ensembles, patterned with subtle red leaf-like designs against a darker background, were identical, reflecting their identities as twins.

They also showed off carefully styled braided updos as they arrived with dignity and grace.

During another portion of the day’s events, the sisters also delivered a moving performance to comfort the crowd of mourners.

Ernest Kumi’s wife weeps at one-week

Previously, YEN.com.gh reported that Ernest Kumi’s wife wept bitterly during his one-week commemoration held at Akyem Wenchi in the Eastern Region on Friday, August 29, 2025.

Mavis Kumi showed up at the one-week observation accompanied by an entourage of women providing her with support in her trying time.

The video stirred sadness on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing their condolences to Mrs Kumi over losing her accomplished husband at the young age of 40.
