China - A Chinese zoo has been accused of trying to fool visitors by putting a golden retriever in a lion’s cage.

The incident happened at the Yuanjiashan Zoo in Xichang, where a father and his daughter were shocked to see a friendly dog instead of a ferocious lion.

According to New York Post, the father, identified by his surname Tang, filmed the bizarre scene and shared it on March 27, 2021.

The video resurfaces amidst the recent controversy over a bear that had suspiciously been believed to have been a human dressed in a bear costume.

He said he initially thought he had gone to the wrong place, but then he saw a sign on the cage that said African lion.

“The money for the ticket is a small deal. What matters to me more is that I don’t know how to explain the current situation to my kid,” Tang said.

South China Morning Post reported that Pang asked a zoo worker why the dog looked so different from a lion and was told that it was only a temporary arrangement while the lion’s enclosure was being renovated.

The worker also claimed that the sign was supposed to be removed, but Tang did not buy the explanation.

He said he felt cheated by the zoo and did not know how to explain to his daughter that the dog was not a lion.

YEN.com.gh previously reported that, in Eastern China, a zoo denied claims that some of its bears could be humans after a video of one standing on its hind legs circulated online.

The viral video aroused speculation that the Malayian sun bear on display at the Hangzhou Zoo could be a human dressed in a bear costume.

In the video, the bear appeared to have slender legs and folds of fur, giving it an uncanny resemblance to a person acting as a bear.
