Manchester City hammer Huddersfield Town to close Liverpool’s lead at the top of the log

Danilo, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane were among the goals scorers as Manchester City hammered Huddersfield Town 3-0 on Sunday, January 20, to close Liverpool’s lead at the top of the log to four points.

The encounter at John Smith's Stadium saw the Pep Gaurdiola side take the lead after 18 minute through Brazilian star Danilo.

Huddersfield had their moments to score during the opening stanza but could not make it count.

And City had to wait until the second stanza to show their quality on the pitch.

Two quick goals from Sterling and Sane took the game beyond Huddersfield as Man City showed they can match Liverpool’s win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Despite other scoring chances the home-side managed to hold on and at the blast of the final whistle the scoreboard read Huddersfield Town 0-3 Man City.

The result means that City have now netted 24 times in five consecutive wins in 2019 as Huddersfield suffered their 16th league defeat in the current campaign.

The Citizens claimed a precious 3-0 win over Wolves on Monday night to reduce the gap at the summit of the log to four points. Brazil star Gabriel Jesus netted twice for City before Conor Coady's second-half own goal made it three.
