The viral sensation said he had high hopes that the team would perform far differently than it did in its previous game against Chad.

He cautioned the team to score three goals or the players risk losing their spot to talent from the local league.

Scores of fans have bemoaned the team and its technical staff for not giving their all on the pitch.

Others suspect that the players' performance in games was often a politically-motivated ploy to make the government of the day look bad.

Appiah Stadium, in his rants, noted that he did not believe that the team was being manipulated politically.

However, he maintained that not winning the game against Mali by a huge margin will be a dent in the players' commitment level to Ghana, hence the need for locally-scouted players.

A lot is at stake for the Black Stars after their frustrating 1-1 draw with lowly-ranked Chad in N’Djamena.

Mali's record against Ghana

Statistics confirm that Mali has never lost a game played on September 8 since 1972.

Mali has featured in two competitive fixtures on that date, winning both while scoring seven goals and keeping clean sheets.

Ghana, on the other hand, have played 49 home qualifiers, winning 34, drawing 13, and losing just twice. In that time, they have netted 102 goals and conceded 25.

Only two teams have ever beaten Ghana at home in these qualifiers: Sierra Leone in 1997 and Liberia in 2001.

Both defeats came against West African neighbours — a detail that adds a hint of caution, considering Mali too hails from the same region.

Otto Addo speaks on Mali game

Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that coach Otto Addo had opened up about the Black Stars' fixture against Mali in Accra.

Despite the upsetting result in Chad, Otto Addo sounded upbeat about Ghana’s chances when he addressed the press.

For Addo, the bigger picture still looks bright. His overall record as Black Stars coach might not inspire much excitement — five wins, five draws and five defeats in 15 games — but his record in World Cup qualifiers tells a different story.

In seven matches, he is yet to lose, with four victories and three stalemates, according to statistics culled from Transfermarkt.
