Ghana’s struggles on the international stage have taken another hit after the latest FIFA rankings confirmed a further slide for the Black Stars.

Black Stars drop in FIFA rankings
Ghana has lost 1.89 points from their previous total and now sits 74th in the world with 1346.31 points, per FIFA's latest rankings. They are ranked just behind Finland and Georgia but remain ahead of Iceland and Bolivia.
On the continent, the picture is equally concerning. Ghana is now 14th in Africa, falling outside the top 10.
Morocco continues to lead the way on the continent following the CAF Appeal Board’s decision to award them the 2025 AFCON title.
Senegal occupies second place, with Nigeria and Algeria close behind. Egypt complete the top five, while Ivory Coast, Tunisia, Cameroon, DR Congo and Mali round out the top 10.
Burkina Faso, South Africa and Cape Verde are also ahead of Ghana, underlining the scale of the drop.

Ghana searches for coach amid FIFA drop
Beyond the numbers, the rankings reflect deeper issues within the team. Inconsistent performances and tactical concerns ultimately led to the dismissal of Otto Addo.
While his exit came just two months before the World Cup, his record left little room for defence.
In his second spell, he recorded more defeats than wins and struggled against higher-ranked opponents.
His only victory against a non-African side came in a 4-0 win over Trinidad and Tobago in the Unity Cup.
Below are Otto Addo's stats on X as Black Stars coach:
With that chapter now closed, attention has shifted to finding a new head coach. More than 600 applicants have reportedly expressed interest in the role.
Walid Regragui is understood to have asked not to be considered, while uncertainty around Hervé Renard’s future in Saudi Arabia could open the door for a move to Ghana.
Other names in the mix include Pitso Mosimane and Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah, who remains a popular choice among some figures within the GFA and the Sports Ministry due to his familiarity with the team.
As the search continues, the focus will be on restoring stability and rebuilding confidence ahead of the World Cup. Ghana still has time to respond, but the margin for error is shrinking.
