Coventry City midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi has reflected on his Premier League debut after the Sky Blues were handed a difficult start to their return to the top flight.

The Ghanaian midfielder started against defending champions Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Friday, August 21, but could not prevent the newly promoted side from suffering a 3-0 defeat.

For Yirenkyi, 20, the occasion was still a significant personal milestone. He was given the responsibility of facing an Arsenal midfield featuring Martin Ødegaard, Declan Rice, and Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Caleb Yirenkyi reacts to Premier League debut

The youngster's first taste of the Premier League proved challenging.

He picked up a yellow card in the 27th minute before being substituted in the 62nd minute, with Victor Torp replacing him.

According to Sofascore, Yirenkyi completed eight of his 11 passes, made three recoveries and committed two fouls from 13 touches.

Despite the disappointing result, the Ghana international chose to focus on the significance of the moment.

Taking to Instagram after the match, he wrote:

"Disappointing result but proud to make my Premier League debut."

What's next for Yirenkyi and Coventry

Coventry broke their transfer record to sign Yirenkyi from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland after an impressive spell in Denmark.

The midfielder had also shown promise during pre-season, including a strong display in Coventry's 2-0 win over AS Monaco.

Hull stunned Manchester United 2-0 in their opening game, setting up another intriguing test for Yirenkyi and his teammates.
