1. Her rise to the throne
The queen took up the mantle in 1953 after a successful coronation ceremony attended by close family and royal officials.

According to History, the event was held on June 2, 1953, at Westminster Abbey, and the coronation ceremony was the first to be broadcast live on television.

2. Her highness's first assignment in Germany
The fallen queen has had a fair share of travelling on duty. Before her husband died, they attended events together, with him letting her take the center stage.
Elizabeth first toured Germany in 1965, accompanied by her late hubby, Prince Philip, by her side.
They were photographed in a military car, and her visit was the first official visit there by a British royal since 1913. It marked the 20th anniversary of world war II, signalling a reunion between the two countries.

3. She graced her son's wedding like the queen she was
On July 29, 1981, an estimated 750 million people around the world tuned in to watch Prince Charles, Elizabeth’s eldest son, married Lady Diana Spencer at St. Paul’s Cathedral.
The romance between the heir to the British throne and Diana had attracted massive media attention, and their lavish nuptials were considered the “wedding of the century.”
History further added that while Diana earned the public's adoration, her marriage to Charles (and her relationship with the royal family) was troubled from the beginning.

4. Global leader
During her tenure, the queen met different leaders across the globe. She played a key role in UK's partnerships and was never shy to invite people she liked to spend the night at her palace.
While in power, Michelle Obama disclosed to have spent the night at Buckingham Palace but declined to divulge more details about the night.
She maintained a solid front when meeting powerful leaders across Europe and the Americas. She also celebrated and mourned those she closely worked with, as she did with former Kenyan president, Mwai Kibaki.

5. Her silver jubilee
On June 7, 1977, Queen Elizabeth II’s 25th anniversary of her accession to the throne was marked by large-scale parties.
More than a million people lined the streets of London to watch the Gold State Coach travel to St. Paul's cathedral.
The memorable event was featured in the third season of the popular Netflix show, The Crown.

6. Platinum jubilee
In 2022, the queen celebrated 70 years of being on the throne, making her the longest service monarch.
She stood on the balcony while waving at a huge crowd that had gathered to celebrate her being on the throne.
Her son Prince Charles, his wife and her grandson Prince William, his wife and their kids, stood beside her as she looked at the onlooking crowd.

7. Her 96th birthday
The classy lady bowed out at 96. She turned a new year on April 21 and her followers and critics agreed that she had done all that she possibly can to retain the strings of power.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show released a new photo of Queen Elizabeth to celebrate her birthday.
The majestic shot, which was taken last month on the grounds of Windsor Castle, showed the animal-loving Queen standing proudly between her fell ponies, Bybeck Katie and Bybeck Nightingale.

Queen's last bow
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-serving monarch in British history and an icon instantly recognisable to billions of people around the world, died on Thursday.
She was 96. Buckingham Palace announced her death in a short statement, triggering 10 days of national mourning and an outpouring of tributes to her long life and record-breaking reign.
