The UK government has officially published its Student visa guidance, revealing which nationalities are exempt from providing proof of financial support when applying to study in the country.

Under the standard rules, international students applying for a UK Student visa must show they have enough money to cover their tuition and living costs. However, the guidance outlines two automatic exemptions: applicants who have been living in the UK on a valid visa for at least 12 months before the date of their Student visa application, and those applying as student union sabbatical officers.

Countries under UK's differential evidence requirement

Beyond those two categories, the UK government recognises a broader group through what it calls the "differential evidence requirement." Nationals from these countries, along with British nationals overseas, are not required to submit financial proof as part of their application.

The full list spans more than 60 countries and territories, including Australia, Canada, the United States, Germany, France, Japan, China, South Korea, Brazil, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar, among others.

Of the entire list, only three African nations feature: Botswana, Tunisia, and Mauritius. This means citizens of the vast majority of African countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, and South Africa, must still provide financial documentation when applying for a UK Student visa.
