Government dismisses reports of a state burial for Ebony
- The government has dismissed reports that it intends to organize a state burial for Ebony
- According to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, it would only support the family to ensure that a befitting funeral rite for the late musician
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has ruled out the possibility of a state burial for the late musician, Ebony Reigns.
According to the minister, Catherine Abelema Afeku, though death is a bitter pill to swallow, the government would rather support the family to ensure that Ebony gets a befitting burial.
The state would not however, assume responsibility for the final funeral rites slated for Saturday, March 17, 2018.

She added that the government had communicated its position to the family, and this has been accepted.
The statement from the ministry puts to rest speculations that the late musician, born Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, would be accorded a state burial.
Speaking on Hitz FM, she indicated that “That’s a misconception. It is a private family issue. We told the family that on behalf of the ministry, we will help give her a befitting burial and that’s exactly what we are doing.”

The minister went ahead to say that only President Akufo-Addo can exercise his discretion and consequently grant permission for a state burial. In that respect, she added, it was never promised to anyone.
Ebony died in a vehicular accident on Thursday, February 8, 2018 on the Kumasi-Sunyani road.
Two others; her childhood friend, Franky Kuri and her security detail, Francis Atsu Vondee, also lost their lives.
The driver of the Jeep in which they were travelling is currently on admission at the Bechem Government Hospital.
Thousands of Ghanaians trooped to St Martins de Porres on Sunday, February 18, 2018 to pay their respects to the late singer.
Her burial rites is slated take place on Saturday, March 17, 2018.
