Top journalist becomes latest victim of rampant broad daylight robbery in Accra

- GBC’s Napoleon Ato Kittoe has purported that a man dressed like a policeman robbed him

- He revealed that the policeman joined him and led him to an ATM to withdraw the money

- The alleged policeman then joined a taxi after he had robbed the journalist

Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s top journalist, Napoleon Ato Kittoe, has become the latest victim of robbery in the capital city of Accra after a man reported to be a policeman made away with his money.

According to the media practitioner, he was forced to withdraw money from an ATM machine for the police man who was allegedly armed.

Recounting the incident on Facebook, Napoleon Ato Kittoe wrote, "I have news for the public. I was accosted around fiesta royale hotel by a man wearing police inspector uniform at 10:20am today. I was on my way to weija but the police man with gun who entered my car diverted me to korle bu where l was forcibly asked to withdraw money with ATM for him. The man demanded 8,500ghc but l withdrew 1,000ghc. He then left me and jumped into waiting taxi and it sped off. He said to me, are u not the broadcaster who traveled with presidents? Do it and have your peace.”

It is yet to be ascertained if the man in uniform was indeed a police officer. However, the incident seemed to have been planned since the taxi which the policeman jumped into after taking the cash could not have been waiting there by coincidence.

This daylight robbery incident adds up to the alarming number of robbery cases that have been reported in the country in the last couple of weeks.

The police have however been on high alert and have managed to make some arrests in connection with the escalated security threats that have beleaguered some parts of the country.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has however, assured the citizenry of bringing the perpetrators of the recent robbery attacks to book.

In line with this, he has directed for funds to be released to enable the security forces fight the menace.
